42 Prague

Just before Easter, our colleagues – Eva Koutná (Head of Competence Teams), Michal Mátl (Android Competence Lead), Jakub Skořepa (iOS Competence Lead), and Kamil Volf (Java & Kotlin Competence Lead) – visited the inspiring environment of 42 Prague.

The agenda featured an event titled “How to Get into Mobile and Java/Kotlin Development?” Its purpose was to introduce students to technologies they may not encounter during their studies but that are essential for anyone aspiring to succeed in the world of mobile or backend development.

From our own experience, we know that internships without a basic understanding of iOS, Android, or backend development in Java and Kotlin can be challenging. That’s why we decided to take the first step — offering students insights, inspiration, and practical tips to help them prepare for a potential internship, perhaps even with us at Green:Code.

What We Talked About

Each of our colleagues shared their personal journey into their field – from writing their first lines of code to their current roles at Green:Code. The session also included practical demonstrations of the technologies we use every day.

  • Michal introduced the path to Android development – from the MVVM architecture and libraries such as Koin or Jetpack Compose to cross-platform approaches like Kotlin Multiplatform and Flutter.
  • Jakub presented the world of iOS development with SwiftUI, emphasized the importance of native development, and recommended tools such as Xcode or Swift Playground for beginners.
  • Kamil shared his experience with backend development in Java and Kotlin and provided useful links to tutorials, documentation, and learning platforms.

We also put a strong focus on how to learn effectively and with ease – not being afraid to make mistakes, writing as much code as possible, using AI as a helper, reading other people’s code, learning from others’ experiences, being part of the community… and most importantly, attending events like this one that can be the perfect spark for change.

Words That Warm Our Hearts 💚

At Green:Code, we take feedback seriously – and when it’s positive, it’s the best reward we can get. An overall rating of 4.8 out of 5 speaks for itself, and some of the comments truly made us happy:

“The personal stories of the speakers were great – they helped me realize that every path is different, yet possible.”
“I appreciated that you spoke openly about the fact that internships are something we’ll be shaping together.”
“The presentation was clear, funny, and useful.”

We’d like to thank 42 Prague for the invitation, the great collaboration, and the friendly atmosphere. And of course, a big thank-you to all the students – for your active participation, excellent questions, and openness. We’re already looking forward to the next meeting… and perhaps to seeing some new faces join our team.
