UX LAB Lean UX research & Usability testing of digital products
Helping build products people actually want to use
Lean UX research focuses on fast user research and usability testing as an effective way to gather direct feedback from end users of digital products. A service is run by UX LAB, an agile team within Škoda Auto, for which experts from Green:Code provide the necessary external expertise and resources. UX LAB discovers what truly works for users in a product and, just as importantly, what does not. Therefore; teams can make informed decisions, minimise costly revisions of the products and save both time and budget.
Making development decisions based on reliable data
Teams developing digital products often face uncertainty about whether proposed features make sense to users, whether the application is intuitive and where it truly pays off to invest time and resources. Without validation, decisions tend to be based more on assumptions than on facts.
In the case of the Škoda Clip application, designed for internal Škoda Auto employees, it was crucial to validate usability before launching the pilot phase. The app was intended to simplify everyday text-related tasks, but without user feedback there was a risk that users would not fully understand its capabilities or use it to its full potential. Launching a tool that would later require extensive changes, training or fail to be adopted by the target group represented a significant risk. Gaining a real user perspective early on was therefore essential to avoid costly changes after release

Direct observation of how users understand the application
The AI-powered Škoda Clip application was tested by UX LAB through user testing conducted before the pilot launch. The team chose a qualitative research approach and involved representatives from different departments within the target user groups.
Testing took the form of moderated sessions and in-depth interviews. Participants completed specific tasks within the pilot version of the application and verbalised their thought processes, making it possible to verify the clarity and comprehensibility of individual features.
The testing sessions could be observed in real time not only by the researchers but also by the product owner. Direct observation of user interaction with the application delivered a wealth of valuable insights to the development team – insights that would otherwise have remained hidden.
“The insights we gained thanks to UX LAB were crucial for our Škoda Clip team. We received valuable input for improving the application and, most importantly, the perspective of real users, which helped us uncover weak points we would not have identified on our own.”
Saving time and budget through early feedback
UX testing gave the Škoda Clip team a clear understanding of how real users perceive the application at first contact. The client received concrete recommendations for interface and feature improvements based on actual user behaviour rather than assumptions.
Thanks to timely feedback, problematic areas could be addressed early, the intuitiveness of the application was increased, and the risk of low adoption after launch significantly reduced. This resulted in tangible savings of both time and costs that would otherwise have been spent on later-stage revisions.
